"Productivity cult". I realised that this was a real thing, a couple of years ago, when I burned out from it. Thank you for bringing awareness to something that needs to be said, over and over again. It feels like nothing is "just a moment" nowadays, there NEEDS to be a reason or an instagramable output. Love this Liam, thank you.
So true, every moment is an opportunity for people to pull out their phone and capture it and share it but the problem with that is nobody is living in the moment anymore. People visit amazing places and miss out on the experience because they are jumping from one photo op to the next. It's important to just take a moment, soak in the atmosphere and be present.
You have given words to something I didn’t even realize has been oppressing my sad little brain for decades now. And thus freed me from a little bit. So thank you.
Runs on shaming people for not monetizing everything and deflects from what a shame it is that people even need to monetize everything because wages suck.
You nailed it. This has been going on for a while, it really picked up during COVID and started Gig economy of knowledge workers. No where to hide, No downtime, just hustle.
Now trying to work out how to monetize reading substack. Perhaps I can create a tik-rok channel of me reading substack? Obviously long form content only,
You could give your thoughts and opinions on posts by doing live streams on LinkedIn with several articles lined up to discuss. Go deeper on topics. debate with your audience etc
This is so well-put. Great writing Liam. Totally agree on this one. If we can't have hobbies anymore, what is left? The self-development industry is the big culprit here, it sells it as productivity but it's toxic FOMO.
Thank you so much 🙏 I feel like spending my spare time doing things I actually enjoy make me more refreshed for the working week. If gurus had their own way we'd all just be miserable and buying their courses.
Now I feel guilty about turning my shower thoughts into Linkedin posts.
Next time just enjoy the shower 😜

Thanks for the inspiration, subscribe to my Skool to learn how to make tiny tables.
"This time next year...."

"Monetise the yeast." gahah so good.
Well said! I completely agree!
Tiny chairs, big table stakes 😅
I don't feel guilty now. Magic!
This is why I'm not monetizing my plastic model kit hobby.

Oh boy and here I was wanting to monetize my morning breathing routine
Yes, Yes, Yes! I guess I should have been doing more, but glad that I'm not.

This is something i realized way too late in life. I spent many years trying to commercialize software and I hated the whole process.
Now I just code because I enjoy it!
Nice to hear 🫡 what are you enjoying building right now?
An agent that replicates the internal workings of how a customer resonates before making a purchase decision.
Writing that sentence gave me a headache.
That sounds complex but also awesome!!
